Oksanna Crawley
A juicy writing bug bit Oksanna when she was in grade 4. It was a big bite. Her teacher asked her to read her scary Hallowe’en story to the class. When she was finished, the class broke into wild applause. Her love of creative writing was born. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Oksanna began an 8-year career in radio broadcasting. Writing for radio honed her writing skills.
That was followed by a teaching career of 25 years. Oksanna read thousands of wonderful picture books to her students. Once she retired, she drifted back to her first loves – creative writing and art. Oksanna is very proud of the picture book, Pirate Glitterbeard, that she co-wrote and co-illustrated with her daughter, Larissa, during the pandemic. Yes, co-illustrated…they passed the iPad back and forth.
Oksanna is also the author and illustrator of the Super Hammy series of books for the education market. Oksanna loves to use humour in her books to engage children and foster a lifetime love of reading.
Katie Crumble and the Case of the Missing Underwear is Oksanna’s first chapter book. More Katie books are coming!
Oksanna’s book for children, Tom Thomson’s Paintbrush, is coming soon from Fitzhenry and Whiteside/Sutherland House. She has studied Art Fundamentals at Sheridan College in Oakville. Oksanna lives in Ontario with her delightful family.
